Iconic tennis player Serena Williams has reportedly invested in the crypto space through Coinbase which is one of the companies that her newly launched venture company has invested in.
The four-time Olympic gold medalist took to Instagram where she recently revealed that she has a venture firm called Serena Ventures which she launched in 2014. Williams also announced through the social media platform that Coinbase was one of the more than 30 companies that the venture firm has invested in. Coinbase which is one of the top cryptocurrency exchanges in the world and the announcement highlights its recognition as a good investment.
“Serena Ventures invests in companies that embrace diverse leadership, individual empowerment, creativity, and opportunity,” Serena Williams wrote on her Instagram page.
The venture firm has a website which revealed that it has a strong portfolio of financial assets whose combined value is over $12 billion. Serena Ventures particularly invests in firms while they are still in their early stages so that it can easily secure partnerships with the companies in its portfolio.
Williams’ investment in Coinbase aligns with a recent Reuters report which predicted that investment in blockchain startups and cryptocurrencies will surge in 2019 and possibly reach set an all-time high. It also shows that investors are willing to invest in the cryptocurrency market.
Selena is one of the top tennis players in the world and her net worth is more than $180 million. She currently holds four Olympic gold medals and has even been ranked 1st place in singles by the Women’s Tennis Association. Launching Serena Ventures highlights the tennis player’s plan to wisely invest earnings. She also noted in her Instagram statement that the investment firm is also aimed at providing founders with opportunities from different industries.
Williams also revealed that the investment firm targets firms that pursue opportunities, creativity, individual empowerment, and diverse leadership. Serena Ventures also makes sure that there is founders diversity in the firms that it invests in.
