According to the current situation that is experienced on the Ethereum (ETH) networks, everything is pointing towards a spam attack.
Once again the Ethereum (ETH) got overloaded a situation that most users are attributing to a potential spam attack. During the early hours of the day (Tuesday morning) there was a high use of the gas for the transactions according to the Ethereum gas station data.
Gas Usage on the High
One can recall the worst congestion that was experienced by Ethereum during December last year through to February this year. At the moment again a single address is reported to be sending as well as receiving transactions and consumes up to 24.85% of the gas.
This scenario was particularly evident during the early hours of Tuesday whereby it recorded a peak value. However, the transactions later started to decrease gradually regarding their gas use.
The Congestion is Not a First Time Experience-Different Perspective Though This Time
The Ethereum network has experienced similar congestion in the past, and any Ethereum trader will tell the story that comes along with the network congestion. During those periods, the increased activity was thought to be as a result of airdrops as well as other related transactions. Beside the high gas prices that were a result of these overloads, the transactions are equally delayed.
However, things are different now as the increased activity has been linked to being outright spam. Most users have explored transactions and are giving their suggestions all reflecting a spam attack.
One user EtherGuy, on a statement, felt concerned claiming that it seemed as if it was a player book clone without making any sense. In fact, he stated that it was “spamming” the network.
Some users went as far as noting some repeating wallet address patterns loaded with Ethereum. Whether it is merely a fake network load as well as transaction count to create an impression of the Ethereum activity falsely or indeed a spam attack sooner or later, it will be clear. But for now, we’re just let to observe.
