Amazon.Com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) will build 3 giant domes called biospheres that will be filled with endangered plant species in its new headquarters in Seattle. The domes are expected to be completed in 2018 and they will house over 300 plan species and vines. They will provide a conducive environment for the Amazon staff to connect with Mother Nature as they work. This is a move that is seen to be similar to Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) construction of swimming pools for its employees and Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB) building of a four-hectare park for its employees to enjoy working under the sun.
Features of the domes
The domes will be interconnected. They will be as high as 30 meters tall. They will be constructed in front of the new office. Once completed, the biospheres will house over 1800 employees, providing them with an environment that is hard to find in the natural office setting. The domes will form what is being called the “social heart” where employees will rewind and rejuvenate with the breath of fresh air.
Approved drawing of the construction just how comfortable it will be to work in these domes, or Bezos domes as they are popularly known. These biospheres replace an earlier design that had been approved. Perhaps Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s boss realized that there was need for these futuristic domes with plants in this age and time when eco-friendliness is the daily health and fitness mantra. This is indeed a conservation project.
The glass balls that form the dome will be supported by glass shafts. On either side of the domes will be freely accessible retail spaces. No wonder Amazon says that it is focusing on building a neighborhood with this project. The public is already reacting positively to the project, long before it is finalized. People from all walks of the world are already making these biospheres a tourist point of interest. Indeed, their photos are already doing rounds in social media networks such as Instagram.
