In an attempt to outperform Apple Watch, Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) has announced a few updates for Android Wear. As per the reports, the primary focus of the internet mogul is on integrating different hands-free features in Android Wear to increase ease of use and feasibility.
Insights of The Matter
Although Google has announced these updates now, various market experts had given their views about possible features in November 2015. One of the biggest reasons users preferred Apple Watch over Android Wear in the past because it was easy to use and allowed users to make and attend calls without touching their smartphone. With these new updates, Google has tried to bring some iWatch parity to the Android Wear.
Major Updates in Android Wear
Google has updated the Android Wear to make it more marketable and user-friendly than ever before with the help of the new updates, such as-
Voice-Text Support: Users can send text messages to their contacts using voice-text support. As of now, applications like Google Hangouts, Telegram, Nextplus, Viber, WhatsApp and WeChat support the voice-text feature.
New Gestures: With this new feature, users can scroll between different cards with a flick of their wrist. They can open new cards, return to home screen and use different apps with a simple push, shake or lift of wrist.
Make/Attend Calls Right From Watch: Unlike old days, one doesn’t have to take out his smartphone to attend or make a call. He can simply make and attend calls using the Android Wear that comes with the inbuilt speaker. At present, there are two devices on the market that support this feature – ASUS ZenWatch 2 and Huawei Watch.
An official statement of Google claims that these updates will be rolled out in next few weeks, which means that users don’t have to wait much longer before they can start using the revamped Android Wear.
