Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has reportedly filed a patent for integrating display into the woven fabric of the smartwatch band according to an application that was published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The language used in the patent along with the diagrams is proof enough to confirm that they are also for the bands of the Apple Watch.
According to the application, the woven fabric that will offer visual display to the users would consist of fibers that transmit light which communicates the information to the user. A fiber optic cable would be woven into the fabric that will emit light that will be reflected on the cable and not inside the fabric. This fabric would work like a tethering device that can be helpful in connecting an electronic device to the watch user.
Probability of Patent for Apple Watch
There is a sentence in the application that talks of building a case in which the portable electronic device has been mentioned as the timekeeping device and the probable device list includes electronic watches. The patent application has listed three different ways of information display by the fibers. While one way is by lighting the entire optical fiber, the other was by transmitting light to the length partly and the last was by lighting the entire fiber and covering some of the area that emits the light with the fabric.

To ensure that the band was secured, Apple could use colored light as confirmation. The time display and message indicators also use colored lights. Just the color would confirm whether band was closed when used on the wrist or not. There is also the mention of other electronic devices like smartphones and laptops and one of the drawings shows the woven display providing alerts on messages will the MacBook is on sleep mode.
There are many patents that have been acquire by Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) even earlier that never reached the shelves but it assumed importance as over 384 other patent applications were also published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for Apple. The product design manager for the smartwatch patent of Apple is Tedor Dabov and the patent was filed on May 30, 2014, according to sources.
